Viewing lodged debris with ViewMax |
An operator of a deepwater well in the GOM experienced a work-string failure while milling cement. The assumption was they had jumped a box in the work-string. Attempts were made to re-stab into the pin but without success. The work-string was pulled and it was discovered that the work-string had twisted-off above the pin leaving pipe fragments in the hole. A fishing operation commenced and the operator was able to latch onto the remaining BHA-fish and began tripping out of the hole. When coming through the sub-sea wellhead however, the rig had to engage in heavy over-pull but eventually worked through and recovered all the fish. The operator wanted to confirm the integrity and sealing surfaces of the wellhead and decided a downhole camera would be the best tool to evaluate the conditions. Expro’s ViewMax camera system which provides both downview and sideview cameras in the same tool was mobilized and run in the well. The camera inspection revealed two fragments of pipe lodged in the wellhead (one shown in this image below). With this information, special clean-out BHA's and brushes were run to remove the debris. The completion operation has now resumed. |
